Ugotovljeno je bilo, da so grbinaste fotonapetostne celice učinkovitejše pri zbiranju energije kot ravne celice

Turški strokovnjaki so izvedli vrsto poskusov, med katerimi so preučevali fotonapetostne celice iz organskega polimera P3HT:ICBA, ki deluje kot aktivna plast na plasti aluminija in podlage iz pleksi stekla. Vse to je bilo prevlečeno z zaščitno plastjo indijevega kositrovega oksida. Takšen strukturni “sendvič” je prisoten v vseh cevčicah ali “polkrožnih lupinah”.

Ugotovili so, da takšne celice v primerjavi z ravnimi površinami absorbirajo sončno svetlobo za 36 in 66 % bolje, odvisno od stopnje njene polarizacije. Poleg tega gomolji omogočajo, da svetloba prihaja iz več smeri, kar zagotavlja kotno pokritost do 82 stopinj.
